The greatest obstacle to change isn't a lack of willpower-it's unconscious patterns. Most of us spend our lives repeating the same thoughts, emotions, and behaviours without ever questioning them.
The behaviours we're least proud of often remain because, somewhere beneath the surface, they still provide us with perceived benefits. Until we become aware of those hidden payoffs, lasting change is incredibly difficult.
As Carl Jung famously said:
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."
Real change begins with the courage to acknowledge what we've been avoiding. When we bring the unconscious into conscious awareness, we regain agency, make new decisions, and begin creating a different future.
Can a leopard change its spots? Absolutely-but only when it first chooses to see them.
